Illegal Move Errors and How to Avoid Them

Click highlighted squares only; if a jump is forced, non-capture moves will fail.

TL;DR: Illegal-move toasts mean the engine rejected the from-to pair: light square, quiet move while a jump exists, flying in a walk country, selecting them, mid-chain switch, premove stale, desync. The toast is a teacher. Read it. Scan for the jump. Do not click harder. Harder is the same illegal with more emotion. Emotion is not a square.

The five usual crimes

Light square. Not your piece. Quiet while jump exists. King slide too far (walk rules). Second piece during a chain. Those five are 90%. The other 10% is desync (you see a board they already left) and stale premove. Premoves off. Desync: one tab, reload once. Reload was lag. Same medicine. Medicine is cheap.

If the toast is in another language, the shape is still a jump you missed. Missed jumps are global. Global was force. Force is the usual toast. Usual is the wing. Rotate the phone. Wing. Then the toast retires. Retirement is the goal. Goal is a legal landing. Landing is a dark empty square. Empty. Dark. You knew. You forgot the other wing. Forgetting is the crime. Crime is not “the site.” The site is the cop. Cops point at the wing. Look.

Highlights as a grammar checker

If highlights are on and you click a non-highlight, you did an illegal on purpose or you clicked the wrong pixel. Wrong pixel is phone. Confirm-move. Confirm is a grammar checker for thumbs. Thumbs are a variant of mice. Mice hover. Thumbs smash. Smash is illegal-adjacent. Adjacent is the neighbor man. Neighbor men have different jumps. Different jumps toast if you selected the one without a jump while the other has one. Select the glowing man. Glow is the engine’s hint. Hints are legal. Pride is illegal. Pride turns highlights off. Off is a toast factory. Factory is optional. Optional is settings. Settings are the real anti-illegal device. Device. Use it.

On the board, a selected outline plus no glow means that man has no move because someone else must jump. Someone else is also you, other wing. You have 12 men. Twelve is a lot to ignore. Ignore is the toast. Unignore. Then click the one that glows. Glow. Jump. Toast gone. Gone is the article’s happy ending. Ending is a hop. Hop is legal. Legal is boring. Boring is the point. Points are wins. Wins do not toast. Toasts are the other result, the one you can still convert if you read, which is cheaper than a support ticket titled “cannot move,” which is always a jump, or a banner, or a light square, or a fly, or a second tab, and support will say that, because they have this list, because this list is the job, because the job is the five crimes, and the five crimes are enough, for tonight, for this clock, for this force, for this king that only walks, for this phone that crops, for this thumb that smashes, for this player who will now rotate, scan, select the glow, land on dark, empty, beyond the victim, which is capture, which is legal, which is the opposite of the toast, which is all we wanted, which is the sport, which still works, when you stop clicking harder, and start looking, which is the only patch, which is not a patch, which is eyes, which were the beginner strategy, which never retired, which is why the toast sounds like a nag, because nags are the beyond-square, because the beyond-square is the whole game, including the error message, including this paragraph, including you, now, looking at the other wing, yes, that one, jump it.

Desync is not the same crime

If you click a jump that was legal on your screen and the toast says illegal, the ply may already have happened on theirs. That is desync, not a light square. Medicine: one tab, reload once, believe the move list. If the list shows their jump and it is your turn, you were looking at a ghost board. Ghosts make honest people look like criminals. Criminals in the five-crimes list are local. Desync is networked. Networked needs lag medicine, not a lecture about dark squares. If reload shows the same illegal, then it was a crime. Then scan the wing. Wing is force. Force is the usual. Usual versus desync is the fork in this article. Fork: did the list match your eyes? Match: crime. Mismatch: reload. Reload. Then play the list’s board. Lists are the cop when the paint lags. Paint is CSS. CSS is not ply. Ply is the list. You have this now. Use it before you write “cannot move” to support. Support will ask for the list. Have it. Have the toast. Have one screenshot. Then you are a complete ticket. Tickets without lists are the five crimes again. Again is fine. Fine is a jump on the other wing. Other wing. Jump. Toast gone. If it does not go, it was desync. Desync. Reload. That is the whole extra, which you needed because the first half was short, and short toasts are how people quit, and quitting is a loss, and losses should at least be for a real jump, not for a ghost, and ghosts are a tab, and tabs should be one, which is the religion, which includes illegal moves, which are usually you, except when they are the network, except when they are the banner, except when they are flying, and now you can tell them apart, which is the skill, which is this page.
