TL;DR: Accessibility on a checkers site is contrast, size, motion, keyboard if any, captions on sounds, no color-only hints, and a board that does not rely on hover. If you need bigger squares, zoom or landscape is a legal “opening.” If you cannot see yellow vs green, that is Wordle; here you need piece vs empty vs highlight. Highlights should not be the only signal: outline plus list plus sound. Stack signals. Stacks are access. Access is a setting, not a vibe.
Contrast and the dark-square religion
If the theme paints dark squares too close to the piece color, you will illegal-move onto camouflage. Camouflage is a contrast bug. Pick a high-contrast theme, or a theme that keeps pieces outlined. Outlines are accessibility. Accessibility is not “ugly.” Ugly is a ranking from people who can see the camo. You cannot. You get the outline theme. Theme. Change it. Changing is the first move of access. First moves were a different article. This one is settings as strategy.
Colorblind: do not rely on red vs black if they collapse. Use shape (crown icon) plus position. Position is geometry. Geometry still works if hues die. Hues are optional. Optional is a good word. If the site only uses hue to show whose turn, that is a bug for you. Workarounds: clock motion, banner text, sound. Sound was a desktop article. Sound is a turn signal. Signals should be redundant. Redundant is the gold standard. Gold is not a piece. Pieces are round. Round plus crown is a shape. Shapes survive hues. Survive. Then play.
Size, zoom, motion
Browser zoom 125–150% is a legal aid. Legal is the important word. Aids are not engines. Engines calculate jumps. Zoom shows the wing. Wings were force. Force needs eyes. Eyes need pixels. Pixels are zoom. If zoom breaks the canvas (empty board), zoom less and use landscape. Landscape is the phone’s accommodation. Accommodation is not a cheat. Cheat is a second brain. Second brains are banned. Bigger pixels are not a brain. They are a window. Windows are allowed. Allowed. Stretch.
Motion: disable piece animations if they make you skip a chain tap. Skipping chains is an illegal or a missed hop. Missed hops are a motion tax. Taxes should be optional. Optional is a toggle. Toggle “instant move.” Instant is access for vestibular issues and for thumbs. Thumbs plus animation is a desync of intent. Intent is the hop. Hop without a ballet. Ballet is cosmetics. Cosmetics are off. Off is a valid style. Style is not rating. Rating is jumps you completed. Completed is the chain. Chain. Instant. Then the king is where you meant, which is the only animation that matters, which is the result, which is a square, which is dark, which you can see, because you zoomed, because zoom is this paragraph’s flying king, except it is legal in every country, because it is your browser, and browsers are a variant you control, which is the best variant, which is settings, which is the sport’s quiet opening, which you play before move one, every time, like a chip check, because access is a chip, and chips are this blog’s religion, and religions should include you, which they do, if the squares are big, and the contrast is rude, and the motion is off, and the sound says “your turn,” and the list witnesses the ply, and the banner uses words, and the words are not only a color, because color-only is a wall, and walls are the opposite of a board, and boards should have doors, and doors are settings, and settings are the article, and the article is zoom, contrast, instant, sound, outline, one tab, which you already knew from troubleshooting, which is also access, because extra tabs are a cognitive load, and load is a disability on a bad day, and bad days deserve one tab, which is a kindness you can give yourself, which is legal, which is the point, which is play, on a board you can actually see, which is the only fair-play that starts before ethics, which is pixels, which is enough, for a start, for tonight, for this clock, for this wing you can finally see, because you rotated, because rotate is access too, because rotate is free, because free is the right price, because checkers should not charge extra for a thumb, because thumbs are the default pointing device of the century, because the century is a phone, because phones are the board, because the board should fit, because fit is the word, because the word is accessibility, because accessibility is not a footer, it is move zero, and move zero is yours, before they even sit down, which is the only first-move advantage that is always legal, in every variant, including walking kings, including flying, including suicide, including this one, tonight.
